‘Positive hints’ on peace talks by ULFA(I): Himanta

GUWAHATI, JANUARY 31: There are some positive hints in the latest statements made by elusive ULFA (I) leader Paresh Baruah in response to the Centre’s recent offer to join peace parleys.
This was stated by Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on the sidelines of the arms laying ceremony of over 16,00 cadres and leaders belonging to four different factions of the NDFB here today.
Sarma said that the Centre is analyzing the statements made by the ULFA leader is being analysed and the issue will be taken up with the Ministry of Home Affairs soon.
The State Government had recently stated that it was ready to offer an olive branch to ULFA ‘C-in-C’ Paresh Baruah if the latter wants to join the peace process.
However, reacting to the Government’s offer, Baruah had told a section of media that he will not sit across the table with the Government until and unless the issue of ‘sovereignty’ is in the agenda.
