Dimapur, March 16: Chief Secretary Nagaland, Temjen Toy has notified that in pursuance of the standing instruction of the Election Commission of India the Government of Nagaland has designated all officers and ranks of Nagaland Police from DGP down to constable, including Home Guard, Village Guard as election related officials for the purpose of Section 28A of the Representation of People Act 1951 with effect from the date of notification for election till the completion of the general election to Lok Sabha from Nagaland Parliamentary Constituency 2019 and the bye election to Nagaland Legislative Assembly from 26 Aonglenden (ST) AC.
The police official who are involved in any way in election related arrangement and perform duties in connection with the conduct of general election to Lok Sabha from Nagaland Parliamentary Constituency 2019 and the bye election to Nagaland Legislative Assembly from 26 Aonglenden (ST) AC, are by law, officers of Election Commission, being deemed to be on deputation to it, and are subject to its control, superintendence and discipline and as such are answerable to the Election Commission for any acts of commission or omission on their part while performing any election related duties.
MCMC reconstituted: Chief Electoral Officer, Nagaland, Abhijit Sinhua, IAS has notified that the State Level Media Certification and Monitoring Committee (MCMC) for conduct of General Election to the Lok Sabha, 2019 has been reconstituted with the following: Chairman – Abhijit Sinha, IAS, CEO Nagaland; Members – One Observer appointed by the ECI, Limawati Ao, Director, Information & Public Relations, Shahu Patole, IIS, Deputy Director, News, AIR, Kohima, Alice Yhoshu, Journalist & General Secretary, Press Club & Ruokuovizo Chupuo, Sr. Programme Officer, Directorate of Information Technology & Communication and member secretary – Khekugha Sema, Jt. Chief Electoral Officer, Nagaland.
The State level MCMC will decide appeal from both District and Addl CEO Committees on Certification of advertisement as per the Commission order and examine all cases of paid news on appeal against the decision of District MCMC or cases that may take up suo motu, in which case it shall direct the concerned ROs to issue notices to the candidates.
