
Dimapur, June 1: Pochury Programme Live was launched at Akashvani, Kohima today.
VP, (Kma Base, Pochury Hoho) and Deputy Director, IPR, Siewatho S. Nyusou said it took about three decades for the launch and it is a landmark occasion for the Pochury people. This programme will unify the tribe emotionally and will help in preserving and developing the dialect of the tribe, he said.
He also mentioned that it will benefit the relationship with other tribes which will help Pochuries to greater heights.
ADP &Head of Programme (HOP), L K Mulony while launching said that this programme has been a cherished dream for decades and today it has finally come true. He mentioned that the programme can be heard on the primary channel at 639KW and FM Tragopan FM 103MH at 11:35 a.m. Mulony also said that by 1st October 2023, the dialect news will be extended to 30 minutes.
News Editor, AIR, Asonuo mentioned that this achievement is through the collective efforts of all who were involved. She urged the Pochury people to be keen listeners of radio programmes and to give constructive feedback and suggestions.
Asonuo requested all the dialect readers, that, unlike any other media, News broadcast from Akashavani, has already made a benchmark for itself – for its accuracy, factual reporting, and credibility, and as a news reader cum translator, they are weighed with responsibilities and information that they are going to disseminate which should be properly translated since the listeners are mostly from the rural areas where newspapers and other medium of information are not easily accessible.
Director General, Akashvani, Dr. Vasudha Gupta aired a message at the launch where she mentioned that this was a great achievement of Akashvani as it attaches utmost importance to local languages for better and fruitful communication. With the inclusion of the Pochury dialect, Akashvani Kohima will now have 15 dialects in the news and other programmes.
Vizhula Nyusou, Casual Pochury Dialect Reader was the first to air the Pochury Programme. The programme was also aired on the NewsOnAir app.
