Dimapur, January 13: Poanglüm mini hornbill, the premiere festival of Changs, got underway today at Loyem Memorial Ground, Tuensang town under the theme ‘Waza’.
On the first day of the festival, Lima Onen Chang, OSD to Chief Minister of Nagaland was the fest patron. President, Chang Khulei Setshang (CKS) was the host and Kumar Ramnikanth, Deputy Commissioner, Tuensang was co-host.
Fest patron while appreciating the Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio for the mini hornbills; thanked the team of CKS and the organizing committee for the outstanding arrangement made for celebration of the Poangl?m Hornbill Festival.
He also greeted the people on behalf of CM Chang, Minister, who was supposed to be the fest patron but could not make it due to some important official works.
The fest patron talked about how dependent Nagas have become on the assistance from the government. He reiterated that our forefathers did not rely on anything but celebrated with pomp and gaiety along with the neighbouring villages and tribes.
Earlier, the heralding of the festival was pronounced by Khoni Ashem, Hd. GB, Tuensang town and Rev. H. Sangkap, Pastor, Tuensang Town Baptist Church invoked God’s blessing.
A beautiful drama of the significance of the Poangl?m festival was enacted by the Ngangpong Sochumers (hostellers).
Welcome note and short speech was delivered by the host. K/khel, Tuensang village, Kejok Union Tuensang Town, Yangpi Sao Thangjam Tuensang Town, Chingmei M?tli Thangjam Tuensang Town, Konya Union Tuensang Town and Yimchunger cultural troupe displayed folk dances in the afternoon.
