Play bigger role in controlling drug menace: Patton tells students

Dimapur, May 6: Deputy Chief Minister Y Patton has asked the student community to play a bigger role in controlling the drug menace in Wokha District.
A press release on stated that the Deputy Chief Minister made this remark on Saturday while speaking as the chief guest at the 2-dat Nyiro Range Students’ Union (NRSU) general conference held at Government Middle School, Nyiro.
Patton, who also holds the portfolios of Home and Border Affairs, said that Wokha District has reported the highest number of drug users in the State. Terming it a major challenge that needs all stakeholders’ effort to tackle, he urged the student community to play a bigger role.
Stating that Nagaland Government is taking strict action on police personnel under substance abuse, he appealed to the citizens to report such cases.
Patton also expressed dismay at the division within Lotha Baptist churches and invited all to come together to a settlement. He assured that all the four Lotha Legislators were working to help resolve the issue.
Highlighting the duty and responsibility of students during the event, Patton said that the students must focus on their academic results and have determination to excel in competitive exams.
Limasunup Jamir, IG (Range), who accompanied Patton, said that the Police Department has initiated a war on drugs and sought co-operation from all stakeholders. (Page News Service)
