Plastic free campaign launched at Tuensang

Dimapur, January 24: The Tuensang District administration initiated a Plastic Free Campaign in collaboration with CCSU which was formally launched by Deputy Commissioner Tuensang, L. Jamithung Lotha on January 23 during the 56th general session of Confederation of Chang Students Union at Buthanbou Village Tuensang on January 22&23.
Speaking on the occasion, the DC mentioned that plastics are inexpensive and durable as a result plastic production and use by humans are high. However the chemical structure of moist plastics are resistant to natural process and takes long time to degrade thereby causing environmental pollution. He urged the gathering to reduce the use of plastics as to protect the environment.
As part of the campaign, food was served on traditional bamboo plates, leaves and pledged cards were signed by students to reduce the use of plastics.
