PIL filed against Govt on SRDP projects

Dimapur, April 29: A public interest litigation (PIL) has been filed in the Gauhati High Court, Kohima Bench, against the decision of the Government of Nagaland to revise and replace the work programme/plans to be undertaken under Special Road Development Program (SRDP) for the period 2017-18. The next hearing of the mater has been listed on May 14 next.
Appearing on behalf of the petitioners, senior counsel Taka Masa submitted that the previous Government had approved 17 projects to be taken up under SRDP fund sanctioned for the period of 2017-2018 amounting to Rs 15 crores, and the same was released after the necessary approval was given, to the work agency.
However, when the new Government came, out of the 17 projects, 15 projects have been replaced and only two out of the 17 projects have been retained, he said.
The senior counsel for the petitioners also submitted that orders for the release of the fund and re-appropriation of the same for the new projects have been issued. He further submitted that though the fund has been released to the work agency, the same has not been utilized as yet, and sought the Court’s intervention to restrain the respondents from utilizing the fund.
After hearing the senior counsel for the petitioner, the Court allowed two weeks time to the Senior Additional Advocate General, Nagaland, TB Jamir to file counter-affidavit, who was also asked to produce records.
The court also passed interim order restraining the respondents from utilizing the find sanctioned for the new project. (Page News Service)
