Phek Police nabs 4 kidnappers and extortionists

Kohima, May 3: Phek Police arrested 4 persons – 2 involved in kidnapping for ransom of an employee of Madhucon Projects Ltd from Phek town on April 26 last and 2 other for extortion bids.


According to Phek police source, the kidnappers were identified as Vevolhu, ‘Lieutenant’ in NSCN (Khango), and Mutuku Vero, a cadre of NNC (NA).
The source informed that the employee was kidnapped by the duo at a shop, and taken to an unknown location, for a ransom of Rs 3 lakh.
On receipt of information, Phek Police conducted raids at various suspected places, and with the intervention of public leaders, the employee was released unharmed.
A special team arrested Mutuku Vero on April 28 at Phek town and subsequently the main accused Vevolhu was arrested at Yoruba village on Sunday.
Also, two extortionists namely ‘Sgt Major’ Serayi of Nagaland People’s Government of Nagaland (NPGN) NNC (NA), and his accomplice Venepa, were arrested on April 30 by Phek Police for extorting from shops at Phek town.


Extortion receipts and an amount of Rs 2410 were seized from their possession, according to police source. Page News Service
