Kohima, February 2: Football Association Phek District on Saturday broke its drought of trophy and emerged champion of the 20th Inter District Football Championship.
The tournament, also known as Dr. T Ao trophy, was organized was organized by Department of Youth Resources and Sports, Government of Nagaland in commemoration of the 100th Birth Anniversary of Dr. T. Ao at the newly inaugurated first and only astro turf football pitch at IG Stadium here.
Phek district defeated Kohima District Football Association by 2-1 in the final match to lift the trophy for the first time.
Phek district found an early lead through midfielder Punürü in the 7th minute but Kohima also returned with the equalizer in 42nd minute through striker Kezhose Khizho to end the first half in 1-1 draw. After the lemon break, it was Phek district forward Rhitso Mero striking the winning goal in 66th minute.
Winning the championship, Phek district received Rs 3 lakh with trophy and citation while Kohima district received Rs 2 lakh with trophy and citation. Semi-finalist teams Peren and Mokokchung also bagged Rs 50,000 each.
The individual awards went to:
Best Goalkeeper – Imtikumsuk of Tuensang DFA
Best Defeder – Kevizapu Lhoungu of Kohima DFA
Best Midfielder – Vekhruto Resu of FA Phek
Best Forward – Punürü Nienu of FA Phek
Highest Scorer – Kezhose Khizho of Kohima and Suponglemba of Mokokchung DFA for scoring 5 goals each
Player of the Tournament – Kekhrieletuo Tsira of Kohima DFA
Advisor for Department of Underdeveloped Areas, N. Bongkhao Konyak graced the final as special guest and gave away the awards to the winners.
