Dimapur, May 14: Pete Village Level Organisation (VLO) from Kezoma village under Jakhama RD Block, Kohima District was adjudged as one of the 10 Best VLOs selected from amongst 2,30,158 VLOs across the country under DAY-National Rural Livelihoods Mission (NRLM), Ministry of Rural Development (MoRD). The award ceremony was held at Nerhu Stadium Ranchi, Jharkhand during the Gram Swaraj Abhiyaan and celebration of Aajeevika Evam Kaushal Vikas Mela on May 5. Six representatives of the VLO led by Kenivole Richa, Assistant District Program Manager and Vikepelie Mejura, Area Coordinator, Nagaland State Rural Livelihoods Mission received the award.
Chief Minister of Jharkhand, Raghubar Das handed over the award to the 10 Best VLOs under DAY-NRLM in the country. He congratulated them and encouraged them and others to work hand in hand for the upliftment and reduction of poverty of the rural poor in the country.
Awards were also given to the successful youths under DDU-GKY and RKVY.
During the celebration poor women who have come out of poverty and rural youths who have benefitted out of the different skills trainings shared testimonies. Success stories under the thematic areas of NRLM such as institutional building, livelihoods, financial inclusion and skills were shared.
Pete VLO, since its formation on 31st May 2015 has been continuously nurturing the 16 SHGs with 136 households in the village. Some highlights worth mentioning on the achievements of Pete VLO are: strength of the institution following Panchasutra (five cardinal principles) with active sub-committees on social issues affecting them; regular cleanliness drives in the village; ensuring proper implementation of mid-day meals for school children in the village; construction of community livelihoods infrastructures through convergence with MGNREGA and ensuring proper provision of old age pension in the village.
