Peren, February 25: Reigning Zeliang Wrestling Association (ZWA) champion Penamhung Son of Namchuilak from Mpai Village (Western Zeliang) today retain his title by defeating Keheirie of Southern Zeliang in the final match during the 25th Zeliang Wrestling Tournament conducted at Multi-Utility Stadium Old Saints Higher Secondary School, Old Peren Town on Feb. 25.
Penamhung walked away with a cash prize of INR 80,000/- along with citations. This was stated in a press release by ZWA President K Mark Guing on Feb. 25.
Keheirie stood in the second place and received INR 50,000. The third place goes to Ihilu and was awarded with INR 30,000 while Isapsi came in the fourth place and received INR 20, 000. All the three wrestlers were from Southern Zeliang. The winners were also awarded citations.
Altogether, 48 wrestlers with 12 from each of the four ranges competed for the ultimate title.
Advisor Urban Development and Municipal Affairs, Dr. Neikiesalie Kire, who graced the event as special guest, had upon his arrival unfurled the Association Flag. In his address, he said that in Nagaland only three tribes-Zeliang, Chakhesang, and Angami are involved commonly in wrestling. He requested the association to promote and to inculcate the rest of Naga tribes in the coming endeavour. He cited that if one has to be successful in the field of wrestling, one needs to work out for physical fitness to compete with others and further wished all the participants.
Guest of Honour Pfudoulhou Kense, Advisor NWA gave away prizes to the winners. Earlier, the programme was chaired by Technical Secretary ZWA, Keheipu Sephe. Presidential address was given by President ZWA, K. Mark Guing while Oath Administration was done by Vice President ZWA, Amos Pame.
