Kohima, March 1: Lok Sabha MP, Tokheho Yepthomi is all set to be the consensus candidate for the ruling People’s Democratic Alliance (PDA) in the forthcoming Lok Sabha poll slated for April.
A top functionary of the Nationalist Democratic People’s Party (NDPP) said Tokheho will be their common candidate for the Lok Sabha poll.
The ruling PDA consists of NDPP, BJP, JD(U), NPP and one Independent.
Sources said there are some people who are intending to be the PDA candidate, but NDPP would field Tokheho again as PDA candidate.
Tokheho took over the Lok Sabha seat after Neiphiu Rio resigned to contest the State general election last year.
NDPP insider said one year as MP is too short for Tokheho, adding the party will give him one more chance.
The party will also contest the bye-election to Aonglenden Assembly Constituency in Mokokchung district.
The Opposition Naga People’s Front (NPF) and Congress are also likely to field candidates.
NPF has remained tight-lipped but according to sources the party is trying to find a suitable candidate, or as a consensus candidate to fight against the PDA candidate.
But while political parties are yet to finalize their candidates, it is expected that the PDA candidate will win the seat, as seen from the previous elections in the State.
This time LS election in the State is likely to see multi-corner contest, with some new faces, including underdogs. (Page News Service)
