PDA supports integration of all Naga inhabited areas

Dimapur, August 11: The People’s Democratic Alliance (PDA) today said that the coalition government in the state would continue to play the role of an active facilitator in the ongoing political negotiations between the Government of India and the Naga national political groups.
In a meeting of the elected members of PDA Government and members of PDA Coordination Committee, the House resolved that the PDA supports the desire of the Naga people for the integration of all contiguous Naga inhabited areas, which has been passed as resolutions in the Nagaland Legislative Assembly on four occasions.
Stating that the PDA has been supporting this legitimate and democratic right of the people, consistently, the PDA appealed to the neighbouring states to appreciate the history and democratic rights of the Nagas under a spirit of mutual respect so that they can live together as good neighbours under an environment of harmonious co-existence and brotherhood.
The PDA appealed to the negotiating parties, especially the Government of India to expedite the peace process and respond to the voice of the people by bringing a political solution that is honourable and acceptable to the people at the earliest.
It reiterated its commitment to pave the way for an alternative arrangement that may arise from the political agreement.
“We urge all section of Naga society to come together under a spirit of unity and oneness, so that together we strengthen the peace process and create an environment that is congenial for successful conclusion of the ongoing negotiations,” a joint statement issued by Chief Minister, Neiphiu Rio, Deputy Chief Minister, Y Patton, Ministers, Kaito and Tongpang Ozukum and Advisor & Leader NPPLP Imnatiba stated.
The PDA government expressed its deepest condolences to the members of the families who have lost previous lives and also extended its concern to all the citizens who have been displaced and those facing difficulties in different parts of the state.
The PDA further extended appreciation to the Government of India and the central agencies for its positive response and timely intervention during the time of natural calamities being faced by Nagaland due to incessant and heavy rainfall.
It acknowledged the efforts of the entire government machineries including the administration, police, para-military forces, the disaster management agencies for the tireless efforts in combating the forces of nature and for extending all possible assistance to the people who have been impacted by the calamities.
It also appreciated all sections of society, who have come forward in a positive manner to extend assistance and support to the efforts of relief and rehabilitation.
The PDA also appreciated the contribution of one month’s salary from PDA MLAs and party functionaries, donations from government employees and individuals who have contributed in a voluntary manner to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund. This gesture sends out the right message that the larger Naga family is together in support of the suffering citizens, in action and in deed, it added. (Page News Service)
