PDA-govt’s first budget  session to re-commence today

Kohima, March 21: After a recess more than a week, the first budget session of the newly installed Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP)-led People’s Democratic Alliance government will commence from Thursday.
After the formation of the new government on March 8 last, the Governor P B Acharya had asked Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio to prove majority in the House on or before March 16.
However Rio proved his majority on the first day of the session on March 13 with 33 MLAs, comprising of 17 NDPP, 12 BJP, 2 NPP and one each JD(U) and Independent MLA, supporting his leadership in the House of 60. 26 NPF MLAs voted against him.
The first day of the session had also witnessed election PDA nominee Vikho-o Yhoshü as the new Speaker and thereafter the new House was adjourned for eight days.
Assembly sources said that resuming after the break, the Governor will address the new House while Chief Minister Rio, who also holds the Finance portfolio will present the budget for the fiscal 2018-19 on March 23.
Besides laying of reports and rules, report of the Comptroller Auditor General report concerning various government departments will also be laid in the House.
