Kohima, April 8: The month old People’ Democratic Alliance (PDA) government in Nagaland has affirmed to deliver all the government polytechnic institutes within this tenure by bringing about a proper technical education policy for the State.
Interacting with media persons on the sidelines of the 4th Regional Workshop on Technical Education for North Eastern States, Minister for Higher and Technical Education, Temjen Imna Along said, “The available infrastructure is poor but not as poor and we would try our best to use the infrastructure that is available now”.
The state has three functional polytechnics which are doing well while remaining three new polytechnics will be functional. He said the polytechnic at Seithekema C in Dimapur has been inaugurated while one at Tuensang would be inaugurated on April 11 and another at Phek within few days.
“In this government’s time we will deliver all the polytechnics,” he said while asserting that the government will ensure that the contractors finish the works properly.
He also stated that the PDA government is trying to ensure that the right programme is put in the right place (polytechnics).
The government will make efforts towards building the technical education system in the state with the help of the Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio and also we also make sure that the faculty is strong to deliver to its people, the Minister said.
On the possibilities of upgradation of Khelhoshe Polytechnic Atoizu in Zunheboto district into full-fledged engineering college as suggested by Opposition MLA Imkong L. Imchen during the recently conclude first budget session of PDA government, the Minister said that extensive study is being made on the feasibility. There are many issues and the department needs sometime to deal with issues concerning landowners, but we will make sure that a Degree Engineering College comes up in Nagaland in its best way for people, he said.
On delay in payment of salary leading to functional disruption of the institutes unlike the previous government, Along said the PDA government will make sure that such situation does not happen.
Recalling that because of the instability in the last government, the departments had suffered in many ways, he affirmed that the PDA government is here to stay and deliver.
