JAIPUR, July 26: Jaipur teenager Avani Lekhara clinched 10m air rifle silver at the Para shooting World Cup in Osijek, Croatia, on Thursday. Avani, 18, has already won a quota place for the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics and on Thursday, she shot 248.2 in the final (R2 10m rifle women SH1) for the second place.
The gold went to Slovakian shooter Veronika Vadovicova with 249.5. Ukraine’s Iryna Shchetnik took bronze with a score of 226.8.
Avani had made cut for the 8-woman final after shooting 621.2 in the qualifying round.
The wheelchair-bound shooter had won a quota for India in 50m prone SH1 event at the shooting World Cup held in Al Ain, UAE, in February.
In May, she had set a qualification junior World Record after shooting 631.7 in 10m air rifle prone mixed event (R3). However, she could not make it to the finals as she missed the cut by 0.7 points at the World Shooting Para Sport Championships in Cheongju, Korea. (TNN)
