Kohima, February 12: Minister of Health & Family Welfare S. Pangnyu Phom held a review meeting concerning the alleged smuggling of formalin fish into Nagaland.
The minister held the review meeting together with the Secretary, Principle Director and senior officials of Health & Family Welfare with the Food Safety Nagaland team at his official residence, Old Minister Hills Kohima on Tuesday.
The Minister reportedly took a report on the status of the department’s action against formalin laced fish with facts and figures, the amount of formalin being detected and types/ species of fish tested positive.
He reportedly directed the Food Safety team to continue testing of formalin in fish and keep a constant surveillance of all food commodities with stress on pork qualitative analysis especially at entry points like Dimapur, Amguri, Mariani (Jorhat) and Tizit. The Minister was apprised of setting up of food testing laboratory in Dimapur which is demanded by the public. He was also informed that the State revenue generated through Food Safety licensing and registration till date is Rs 1.33 crores with a generation of Rs 26.5 lakhs for the year 2018-19.
During the meeting, it was decided to have constant vigil at Khuzama check gate against influx of misbranded and sub-standard food items especially Myanmar food products. (Page News Service)
