PAC (NCD) urges DC Dimapur to curb multiple taxation

Dimapur, August 28: The Public Action Committee of Naga Council Dimapur today urged Deputy Commissioner Dimapur to take appropriate measures to contain multiple taxation, syndicate and lease system operating in Dimapur.
In a representation submitted to the Deputy Commissioner, the PAC (NCD) convenor, Vekhosayi Nyekha and co-convenor & vice president, NCD, K Ghokheto Chophy stated that rampant multiple taxation, syndicate and lease system operating in and around Dimapur by various Unions, organizations including the Naga national workers and government agencies on various goods and services, transporters, entry fees on vehicles, item wise tax on goods, stockists, dealers, wholesalers down to the retailers etc. has compounded the uncontrolled inflation in all prices in the market, thus, affecting the consumers and public in general.
The PAC stated that this unethical practice has been continuing unabated in spite of peaceful public demonstrations and rallies on several occasions in the past in Dimapur district and whole over the state by different forums and NGOs spear headed by ACAUT.
However, so far the Government has failed to take concrete measures to control and curb this unabated menace and regulate pricing policy in the district as well as in the whole state, it added.
It also informed the DC about the decision taken on “One Government , One Tax” on 31st October 2013. It stated that
19 tribal hoho/organizations under Naga Council Dimapur including Naga Women Hoho Dimapur (NWHD), Dimapur Urban Council Chairman Federation (DUCCF), Dimapur Chamber of Commerce & Industry and GBs Union Dimapur has resolved to persuade the issue through Public Action Committee (PAC) by raising the issues to the Government as well as the Naga National workers group and various registered and unregistered unions, organizations and government agencies.
The PAC has constituted a Fact Finding Committee to study and verify the magnitude of the matter and enlighten the house and public on the issues, adding the report of the findings is shocking. (Page News Service)
