Dimapur, November 20: The PAC, NCD has expressed shock at the incident that occurred Wednesday morning at 9:45 am near Khuzama excise check gate, Kohima, where suspected armed NSCN(IM) cadres came in a taxi, and beat up a truck driver coming from Dimapur to Imphal after demanding tax of Rs15,000.
The PAC said that the truck driver requested the cadres to speak to the owner, which angered the suspected cadres, who beat him up. The cadres reportedly snatched Rs 10,000 from the driver. The driver was taken for treatment at Mao, the PAC quoting police sources said.
PAC NCD condemned such act of daylight extortion and highhandedness harming and endangering the lives of drivers and travelers crossing the State.
“It is beyond comprehension that NSCN(IM) should create such a situation when their leaders are in talks with GoI in the highest level and Nagas looking forward to a long lasting settlement,” a press release issued by PAC NCD stated.
The PAC demanded the police to nab the perpetrators and accord befitting punishment.
The PAC also demanded NSCN(IM) to identify the cadres and hand over the culprits to the administration at the earliest for punishment deem fit. (Page News Service)
