Guwahati, July 10: The Assam government on Tuesday decided to ban procurement of fish from outside the state for next 10 days after formalin was detected in tested fish samples.
MoS for health Pijush Hazarika said here that the tests conducted at State Public Health Laboratory on samples collected from Guwahati on June 29 last has detected formalin traces in the fish.
As such, the government has decided to restrict procurement of fish from outside the state for next 10 days.
Hazarika said tests will be conducted again after 10 days and if formalin is detected, steps under the provisions of Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, would be taken. (Agencies)
