Orientation on Smart City special initiative campaign held

Dimapur, July 20: A one day orientation programme was organized under the ‘100 days of Smart City Special Initiative Campaign on Sanitation’ for educational institutions on July 12. 230 students from seven colleges attended the programme, which was organised in collaboration with the Green Team Kohima.
The students and faculty were briefed on various sections of the facility, its functioning, challenges and how each citizen can contribute to better management of wastes generated from each household with particular focus on segregation of different types of wastes.
A video on youth initiative to waste management and plastic pollution was shared by resource person, Thangi Mannen. A power point presentation on waste management and plastic pollution was shared with the students.
Practical session was held with the students where each group was divided to collect plastics wrappers, carry bags and packets from the wastes pile and shoved into plastic bottles to make eco-bricks. This was an initiation to reduce non-degradable wastes into creative and useful items instead of littering.
Each college was challenged with creating an eco-park/site in their college until the end of September under the 100 days challenge. Prize will be awarded to the best and most creative park.
