Orientation on official statistics underway


Dimapur, March 15: The Department of Economics and Statistics began a two days orientation programme for employees on official statistics and office procedures on March 15 at DES conference hall, Kohima.
Addressing the participants, Director, Economics and Statistics, Y Sacheo Ovung, stated that the programme is being organized in order to upgrade themselves with the latest skills and knowledge. He encouraged them to feed the realistic information of statistics where wrong information would mislead the people especially in the rural areas. He further urged the employees to rededicate themselves and contribute their best efforts for the department.
Delivering the introductory remarks, Deputy Director, DES, Kezhalelhou Solo, stated that the various training programmes were being conducted annually to upgrade the knowledge and skills so as to improve their efficiency.
Emphasizing on the Statistics and Planning, resource person Dr Seikh Faruk Ahmed, Assistant Professor (Sr.) Department of Statistics, Science College (Autonomous) Jotsoma, Kohima said that success of Government depends on proper planning where correct data analysis and accuracy of data is required. He reminded that one should not focus only on state affairs but also on sound technique for handing and analyzing data.
