Orientation on maternal death review held

Dimapur, April 11: An orientation of the new guidelines on maternal death review was held at CMO’s office chamber today. The orientation was attended by members of the maternal death review committees.
Dr Rebecca reoriented the members on maternal death and the various common causes leading to maternal death in India. She stated that besides the medical causes, there are others contributing factors that leads to maternal death such as low socio-economic status, illiteracy, lack of transportation, early marriage, etc.
Dr Rebecca stated that Maternal Death Review (MDR) was initiated in 2010 under National Health Mission, and to provide a proper response mechanism to MDR, it has been moved to Maternal Death Surveillance and Response (MDSR). The MDSR objectives are to strengthen the process and mechanism of MDR and to institute a system of conducting confidential review into maternal death.
Dr Rebecca also highlighted the roles and responsibilities of the facility-based MDSR committees. A case study was presented and discussed during the orientation.
The orientation was chaired by Dr K Vikato Kinimi, Chief Medical Officer Dimapur, and was attended by Dr Antoly Suu, Deputy CMO Dimapur and members of the MDR committees and facility-based death review committee, District Hospital Dimapur.
