Kohima, November 2: Oriental College Kohima today flagged off its 3-day annual sports meet at D Khel Ground, Seikhazou, Kohima Village with Chairman of Nagaland Building and Other Workers Welfare Board (NBOCWWB) Dr Kekhrie Yhome as the special guest.
In his address, Yhome, while noting how times have changed and how we are living a fast paced lifestyle, emphasized on the importance of sports, fitness, smart living and smart thinking in this rapidly changing and competitive world.
He advised the students to take up the sports meet not just as a 3-day event but as an opportunity to consider sports as a career.
Delivering the keynote address, Principal OCK Dr Ketshukietuo Dzüvichü said that the three day sport is also a part of the Silver Jubilee Celebration of the college. He urged the players to inculcate the right sportsman spirit, to take the opportunity that is given to the students to excel, expose their hidden talents through the 3 days Sports event with the willingness to participate and to grow.
The mega event of the college commenced with the march past of the four different houses to the beat of the Ladies Pipers Band from Kohima Village while oath was administered by Games and Sports Secretary, OCKSU Dziesetseizo Neichu.
The inaugural programme chaired by Changsie, General Secretary OCKSU commenced with prayer by Evangelical Union President, Laisang and Sedevituo Solo enthralled with a special number.
The first event started off with the 100m race for both men and women. Kevirudo (White House) bagged the gold medal followed by Kethosilie (Blue House) and Thenuozelhou (Blue) who bagged silver and bronze respectively.
In the women’s 100 m race Avoshelu (Blue) bagged the gold medal followed by Veyevolu (White) and Chinkin (Red) respectively. The medals and certificates were presented by the special guest. Tracks and field events continued for the day.
