Dear Madam,
Economists and food rights activists pointed out that more than 10 crore deserving Indians would not get the benefit of the five-year extension of the free rations programme for the poor because of government’s failure to conduct the long-due population census. These 10 crore people will also be deprived of getting other welfare benefits as well. This is horrific as poor people are burdened with rising inflation, nagging unemployment and negative growth in real wages as per the Economic Survey of 2022-23.
