OHCC celebrates Pre-Christmas

Kohima, December 19: Officers’ Hill Colony Council (OHCC) today held the Pre Christmas cum celebration for being adjudged winner of the cleanest colony under Kohima municipality at 2K Hotel, Officers’ Hill Colony, Kohima on December 18.
The occasion was marked by felicitation of sanitation workers of the colony with Rs 2000 each.
Chairman of OHCC, Khrielakuo Sekhose said that as Christmas draws nearer the colony have an added reason to be jubilant for bagging the first position out of nineteen wards in the 9th Annual Inter-Ward Cleanliness Competition under Kohima Municipality for 2019 on December 15.
Acknowledging the efforts of the sanitation committee, rag- pickers, sweepers, drivers and labourers, Sekhose said they are the unsung heroes of the Officers’ Hill Colony.
Saying that OHC has a total of fifty-one garbage collection points, Sekhose encouraged the sanitation workers to keep up the good work despite the difficulties.
Drawing inspiration from this achievement, “The OHCC had also resolved to carry out cleanliness-drive every fourth-Saturday of the month in 2020 in the streams and nullahs within the colony jurisdiction, special attention will be given to plastic waste” Sekhose added.
Given the fact the women-folks have a primary role in the kitchen where a large percentage of waste is generated within a household, a sensitization campaign on sanitation will also be organised in the coming year, he added.
In giving an overview of the role of Sanitation Committee and sanitation workers in OHC, Treasurer, Sanitation Committee, Keneivotso said that while the collection of sanitation fees amounts to fifty-thousand monthly, the expenditure incurred even from fuelling of garbage trucks alone come around thirty-thousand every month, the maintenance of the vehicle and the salary of the sanitation workers also have to be accounted for which exceeds the revenue.
Also addressing the gathering, President of Officers’ Hill Women Unit, Shilongmongla said “While the rest of us are sleeping sweetly inside the comforts of our bedroom, the rag-pickers, drivers, sweepers do their job in the early in the morning, and regardless of the weather. She added that credit has to be given to the sanitation workers for not only ensuring a cleaner environment but also bring accolades to the colony.
