Dimapur, May 10: For the first time in Dimapur, Odd-Even formula would be implemented to ease traffic congestion from May 11 to 17, under section 115 of the Motor Vehicle Act 1958 (as amended by Motor Vehicle Amendment Act 2019)
According a notification issued by Commissioner of Police, Rothihu Tetseo IPS, on every Monday Wednesday and Friday only vehicles with registration number ending with Odd Numbers, i.e., 1, 3, 5, 7 and 9 would be allowed to ply.
On Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, only vehicles with registration numbers ending with Even Numbers, i.e., 2, 4, 6, 8 and 0 would be allowed to ply.
Dimapur police has clarified that with the enforcement of Odd-Even rule, vehicle would mean all motorized wheeled vehicles including Two-wheelers that have been registered with the Motor Transport Office.
Further during this exercise all U/R and A/F vehicles will be subjected to police verification and if found guilty the owners shall be penalized as per the MV Act 1988.
This order will apply in areas covering the NH 29 and within the whole town area.
However, prohibition and restrictions on movement of vehicles would not apply to those vehicles exempted through various government notifications that are currently in force in the state and Dimapur District. The order also cautioned said that violators would be penalised under section 177 and 179 of the MV Act 1988.
Meanwhile CP Dimapur has reminded the citizens that lockdown is still enforced and appealed to the people to abide by the order although inconveniences would be faced by them stating that it was for the safety and interest of all. (Page News Service)
