Education is a concept which refers to the overall mental, moral, and aesthetic development of a human being. It dignifies him as the crown of the creation. Indeed it is education that distinguishes humans from beasts. It is the quality of education that determines the future of any civilization in any field, be it technical, scientific, religious or moral. It is such a divine gift, in the lap of which the savage takes a human form. It has accommodated such vast expanse of knowledge in its bosom that if the whole universe takes a share, its level won’t ever decrease. Closer we go, the more it will explore itself. But unfortunately for a few decades now the standard of education in our state is constantly shrinking. The current situation of education in our state is awfully flawed and chaotic. To acquire education has become a formality to be able to read and write or to maintain a dignified position in the society. Because here in our state the real educational setup is yet to be designed, due to which institutionalized education has gripped the minds of students. Lack of proper research scenario and lack of proper vocationalized education has further sickened the condition. Learning is not acquired with real understanding but superficially, based on recalling bookish stories. Knowledge is nowhere found in the mind of a student but locked there under the cold print of books. Education is not imparted to discover new heights of perfection but just to pass the examinations. This is because we appear to be more worried about the duties of government and mess in politics than the duties towards education. Today majority, if not all, of the schools in our state share a problem that is common to them all, and that is teachers themselves, be it government school or private school teachers. However, the problem of government schools is graver than privately run institutions. These people in reality are not worth to be called as teachers. They are in this profession not because of their personal interest and passion but due to the fact that they could not find any other job. This we may say was their last option. When a noble and fundamental profession as that of a teacher is in the hands of those people who perform their duties unwillingly and without any passion for it, their justice to their jobs can well be imagined. There are, no doubt, some honourable exceptions in the form of able and dedicated teachers everywhere. And their role is to undo the damage caused by the rest. In fact the government institutions portray a dismal picture of the reality, whether it is poor infrastructure, lack of maintained libraries, laboratories or lack of efficient teaching staff or lack of a better command. Raw itself is the basic things that promise a healthier educational environment, so expecting quality education in these conditions remains a pipe dream. Now if we try to go deep into the dilemma of the whole education scenario in the state, the authorities alone cannot be held responsible. Somewhere parents also hold the responsibility. Instead of an academic background, they look for a famed institution. Instead of ethics and moral values, they prefer extra co-curricular activities though they don’t ever get the time from their busy schedules to check the regularity of their children. They say our youth today holds the future of our state. Are we really doing anything to enliven the soul of our tomorrow? We are busy polishing our present world, and as they say, let the rest of the world go to hell, who cares! Sure every now and then, we hear of big meetings and conferences being held in various higher institutions to minimize the problems confronting our educational system. Big cars, big officials, big halls, big problems, big feast, and the meetings are over. Problems of poor students are swallowed with tea and snacks. Had they really been serious and concerned about the matter, we would not have such an obsolete education system in the state. One only hopes we all realize our duties towards making education a vibrant system.
