NZP celebrates World Environment Day


Dimapur, June 10: Along with the rest of the world the Nagaland Zoological Park Rangapahar, celebrated the World Environment Day on June 5 on the theme “Beat Air Pollution” with students from Little Laureate school. Besides the NZP officials and staffs, a total of 130 students along with 7 teachers from the school participated in the event. The day started with an introduction by Obed Bohovi Swu ACF followed by a short speech on environmental awareness by the Director of NZP Dr Prabhat Kumar IFS. A Nature walk was conducted in which all the students and teachers actively participated to gain knowledge about the biodiversity and its importance.
Later a drawing competition was organised in the conference hall in which the students were divided into three categories and prizes were distributed to all the nine winners. A skit was performed by the students based on environmental issues like air pollution and deforestation. The event was concluded by vote of thanks by the Director NZP and he presented a wall frame to the Principal of the school. Refreshment was provided to all the students, teachers and staffs at the end.
In the second half volunteers from Highway Area Sumi Students Union (HASSU) conducted a plantation drive inside the Nagaland Zoological Park Rangapahar. Student leaders from 19 units comprising of 50 members took part in this event. They planted 200 saplings of three species. They also undertook a cleanliness drive in the Park after the completion of the plantation activity.
