
Kohima, June 1: The Nagaland Wrestling Association (NWA) today felicitated Vekhonielü Curhah for becoming the first Naga lady to win a Bronze medal at the United World Wrestling (UWW) Belt Wrestling Asian Championship 2023 at Jizzakh, Uzbekistan.
The championship was held from May 20 to 26.
Cürhah, who won Bronze under 56 kg category belt wrestling, represented India under All India Traditional Wrestling & Pankration Federation (AITWPF).
Congratulating Curhah at the felicitation programme held at Nagaland Olympic Association (NOA) complex here, Nagaland Advisor for Youth Resources & Sports S. Keoshu Yimkhiung stressed on the need to value and give importance to sports.
“Don’t stop from here,” he told Curhah and encouraged her to struggle more to excel and bring a good name to Nagaland and the sports department.
He also asserted that the government and the department will extend all possible support to aspiring youngsters to take up sports professionally, nonetheless they should identify their talent and remain focused.
NWA president Dr. Hiabe Zeliang said that Curhah became the first Naga lady wrestler to secure a medal in the international level and lauded Curhah for bringing laurel, fame and honour to the state and NWA.
Chaired by NWA general secretary Vilekho Bio the programme commenced with the Evangelist of Zion Mission Church Naga Bazar Kohima Thüsayi Swüro pronouncing thanksgiving prayer. (Page News Service)
