NVCO backs protest against price hike

Nagaland News

DIMAPUR, JULY 11: Nagaland Voluntary Consumers’ Organisation (NVCO) has extended its support to the ongoing nation-wide protest against unprecedented rise in prices of essential commodities and petrol-diesel, which is being spearheaded by the Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee in the State.

A press release from the organisation on Sunday stated that citizens also should extend support to the protest in order to bring down the prices of essential commodities and fuel.
“During the later part of 2020 when the State Government imposed COVID-cess on fuel and motor spirits, the NVCO asked Government to rollback the said tax as common people were suffering with skyrocketing of prices”, it reminded.
Back then, it had alleged that the State Government did not have an effective mechanism to regulate prices.
“And at that time, the NVCO pointed out that the new tax on petroleum products might not be the right way to create revenue ~ ignoring public interest-but the State Government could always save its budget by removing ‘non-government employees enjoying Government’s monthly salary’ at the rank of Cabinet Ministers, PROs, PSs, media officers, Commissioner & Secretary/Joint/Deputy Secretaries attached to politicians and top offices, non-legislators holding the posts of Advisors, party workers and defeated candidates holding posts of Chairmen with Minister’s status, etc.”, it stated.

NVCO asserted that even now, it will not remain a ‘silent spectator’ over the issue of price rise in the State.
It appealed to the Government to listen to the voice of the people who are protesting against unprecedented rise in prices of essential commodities and fuel. (Page News Service)
