NU Scientist awarded “Best Oral Presentation” at Indian Horticulture Summit 2020

Dimapur, February 27: The Indian Horticulture Society has conferred the “Best Oral Presentation” award to Dr. Avinash Chauhan, Scientist, AICRP (HB&P), Department of Entomology, SASRD, NU, for his presentation entitled “Impact of Stingless bees on Watermelon” which was authored by Dr. Avinash Chauhan, Dr. HK Singh and Otto S. Awomi.
Among the 46 national level oral presentation, he was awarded for outstanding presentation on the particularly important issue during the three day Indian Horticulture Summit organized from February 14 to 16 at Mahatma Gandhi Chitrakoot Gramadhya Vishwavidyalaya, Chitrakoot, Madhya Pradesh.
Dr. Avinash raised the importance of stingless bees and their role in the pollination of crops in Nagaland. He emphasized that stingless bees have added advantages like small body size, non possession of stings, lesser communication between workers, short flight range and fidelity which make them suitable pollinators of crops under protected condition. The research will help farmers in increasing the yield and quality of their crops.
A press note from the varsity stated that the University officials have congratulated the Scientist for his stellar achievement and bringing laurels to the University while helping the farmers and beekeepers of Nagaland and the world as a whole.
