Dimapur, August 6: The Nagaland Tribes Council (NTC) today lamented that the ongoing negotiation between the Naga Political Groups (NPGs) and the GOI have been going on for the last 23 years without arriving at its conclusion creating anxiety, and of late the atmosphere of uncertainty continuous looming over the issue coupled with the Covid-19 pandemic situation across the globe.
In a press release, NTC president, Toniho Yepthomi and general secretary, Nribemo Ngullie stated that the Nagas in particular, have now become impatient as to how long they have to continue remaining in years of uncertainties.
It is imperative that the real peace is ushered into our land through political solution, it added.
The NTC also highlighted the significant achievements during the process of the political negotiation between the Government of India and the NPGs such as signing of Framework Agreement between GoI and NSCN (IM) on August 3, 2015 and signing of Preamble between GoI and NNPGs Working Committee on November 17, 2017.
It said both the agreements of the GOI and the NPGs have reportedly culminated with agreed points for settlement successfully on 31st October 2019″ considering “all unresolved matters shall be pursued through democratic political process post-solution”.
The NTC called upon all the signatories of the agreements to give sanctity to the historic documents.
The NTC also expressed happiness to know about the resumption of the negotiation between the Interlocutor, the GOI and the Working Committee of NNPGs that took place at Chumoukedima on the July 14 last, which it said is a step towards achieving solution through agreement post 31st October 2019, commitment.
Stating that the negotiations are the history in the making, the NTC felt that time has now come for a new dispensation that will usher in a new era of peace and tranquility in the land.
The NTC, therefore, urged the negotiators to expedite the process and bring it to its logical conclusion that is acceptable and honourable to all within a definite time frame.
The NTC also congratulated Governor of Nagaland R N Ravi on his successful completion of one year in the Office on August 1, 2020 and wished him good health and wisdom of the Almighty God on his way forward.
It further appreciated the dedication and sincerity of the Governor of Nagaland R N Ravi for taking initiatives to usher in peace and security to the state of Nagaland.
The NTC further appealed to the Security Forces and NPGs to strictly adhere to the already laid down Ceasefire ground rules. (Page News Service)
