NSRLM organizes ‘Direct Samvad’

Dimapur, July 13: With the rest of the country, Nagaland State Rural Livelihoods Mission organized ‘Direct Samvad (dialogue)’ by Prime Minister Narendra Modi with members of Self-Help Groups under Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana – National Rural Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NRLM), Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalaya Yojana (DDU-GKY) and Rural Self Employment Training Institutes (RSETIs).
A NSRLM release informed that DAY-NRLM has emerged as the largest institutional platform for women’s empowerment towards poverty alleviation in the country. With DDU-GKY, RSETI and SVEP as sub-schemes of DAY-NRLM that focuses on supporting rural youth in accessing wage-employment and self-employment respectively. It seeks to mobilize all rural households into SHGs, build their skills and enable access to formal sources of finance, entitlements and services from both public and private sectors.
In Nagaland, DAY-NRLM is being implemented in 43 Blocks under 9 Districts. As of June 2018, more than 40,000 women have been mobilized into 4409 Self-Help Groups (SHGs) which has federated into 211 Village Organizations and 12 Cluster Level Federations. And Rs 305 lakhs accessed as bank credit, 1200 rural enterprise and 1733 rural youths supported under SVEP and RSETI respectively.
More than 700 community members in Nagaland have been trained and is engaged to provide support to community institutions in a variety of themes, such as training and capacity building, book-keeping, livelihoods, financial services and FNHW/Gender, the release informed.
The members’ interaction, through a video conference, gave an opportunity to interact with the Prime Minister about the various activities undertaken by them, and how these had impacted their lives. Over 418 locations in Nagaland, the dialogue telecasted live by Doordashan and webcasted by National Informatics Centre (NIC) was watched by over 30,000 members of SHGs under 29 Intensive Blocks of 9 Districts.
The beneficiaries who interacted were Self Help Groups from across the country working on anti-alcohol movement; maize value chain and marketing; brick-making unit; Business Correspondent Sakhi and tamarind value chain and marketing; and Manufacturing and marketing of sanitary napkins.
