Kohima, June 17: The summer internship programme under Nagaland State Legal Services Authority (NSLSA) commenced on June 17 for students undertaking law degree courses.
The internship programme running for a duration of 12 days selected a total of 24 students to intensively acquaint them on legal aid and assistance through visitation of various institution.
The students will be interning under Kohima DLSA, Dimapur DLSA and Zunheboto DLSA and are being supervised under a Project Assistant or Retainer Lawyer for mentorship and guidance and overlooked by Project Coordinators.
At Kohima and Dimapur, the interns met the district and session judge and Chief Judicial Magistrate and secretary during an orientation programme held today. The interns were briefed on the activities and assignments to be undertaken during the internship programme.
During the orientation, students were briefed that in the following days, they will be visiting central/district jail; observation home/juvenile justice board; mental health institute/drug rehabilitation centre; child welfare committee; old age home/special homes; district court/ Gauhati High Court; attend legal awareness programme and legal literacy club in a school/legal services clinic.
The interns will also interact with the jail inmates to find out if they are being represented by a council, whether private or public legal service lawyer, find out difficulties among others. During the end of the programme they are entitled to present a paper.
