NSF pushes for setting up SSB in State

Dimapur, June 12: The Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) has pushed for setting up of Staff Selection Board (SSB) in the State within a period of two months.
In a meeting with Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, NSF officials led by president Ninoto Awomi submitted a memorandum seeking the setting up of SSB within a period of two months by the Department of Personnel & Administrative Reforms (P&AR) with members of concerned department and experts to draft the policy in tune with implemented states like Arunachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, Chattisgarh, etc.
The NSF also pressed upon the CM to scrap away departmental exams immediately and that all vacancies in Grade III posts which do not fall under the purview of Nagaland Public Service Commission (NPSC) should come under the SSB for open competition. Further, the team urged the CM that a cabinet decision be immediately taken, notification to the effect be issued and accordingly notified in the official gazette within the stipulated period of two months.
The Chief Minister gave a patient hearing to the presentation and acknowledged that setting up of SSB is the need of hour to root out corruption and take forth the culture of meritocracy, said a NSF press release.
But the CM admitted to certain practical difficulties confronting his Government when it comes to the setting of SSB and its implementation. He, however, assured NSF that the matter shall be discussed with his cabinet colleagues and fellow legislators and the right steps forward shall be taken up by the Government at the earliest.
Congratulating the new NSF team and assuring his Government’s fullest support to the initiatives and endeavors that the new team will be undertaking, the CM expressed happiness that the federation is taking a leadership role on the issue and was optimistic that the involvement of NSF will hasten the process.
