NSF pays homage to Sept 6, 1960 martyrs

Dimapur, September 5: Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) today offered homage to the martyrs of September 6, 1960 incident where nine persons lost their lives in the hands of the Indian Armed Forces at Matikhrii village, Pochury region.
The NSF said on September 6, 1960, the Indian Armed Forces under the command of Lt Gen Thorat, 1st GOC, Eastern Command, a combined force of the 16th Sikh and Gorkha regiments came and surrounded Matikhrii village, at Pochury region and forcibly arrested whole villagers. On the fateful day, nine persons were mercilessly tortured and killed, it said.
On this day, the Federation joined the rest of the Naga people in offering homage to the departed souls “whose martyrdom has renewed our aspirations and our hopes of a brighter tomorrow with a renewed sense of direction and purpose”.
The NSF said the Federation and the Nagas in general shall remain indebted and continue to honour the martyrs through the pages of history and form the fond memories in their hearts.
