NSDMA rescues 4 stranded tourists at Dzukou

Dimapur, June 8: The Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority, Home Department and the DDMA Kohima led another operation to Dzukou late Thursday night (June 7) to rescue four stranded tourists.
According to NSDMA, information of four stranded tourists from Assam was received at 6:40 pm on June 7, after which an SDRF team comprising of 8 personnel along with a platoon commander was activated. The emergency response team obtained the geo coordinates and prepared a 3D map which enabled the rescue operation team to locate the exact position of the stranded tourist.
At midnight the rescue team spotted the stranded tourist by using flash light signals, and were finally rescued at 12:15 am.
NSDMA informed that the tourists were four students from Golaghat Commerce College namely Arpan Saikia (22), Sonu Das (23), Himanshu Dutta (22) and Rahul Dhar (23). They had entered Dzukou from Vizwema entry point and were returning towards Jakhama entry point when an overflowing river prevented them from crossing to the other side.
Meanwhile the NSDMA has against emphasized on the importance of taking all precautions during treks to Dzukou during this monsoon. Trekkers have been cautioned to pay heed to weather reports, take local guides and plan their trek accordingly. (Page News Service)
