NSDMA issue guidelines for May 4 mass social work


Dimapur, May 1: The Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority has issued guidelines for enforcement during the state wide mass social work covering all urban and rural habitations on May 4.
In an office memorandum, the NSDMA asked that in the social work all clogged drains/culverts/natural waterways be identified and cleared to ensure free flow of water to avoid flash floods and damage of infrastructures. It also called for removal of encroachment of drains/ waterways/ discharge of terrace waters directly on the road surface.
The guidelines said undesirable water-loggings be drained out; and excess rubbish dumps on waterways be cleared during the social work.
Urging all departments to take appropriate preventive measures on available infrastructures and to take active participation through respective DDMAs, the OM entrusted the Department of Rural Development to effectively sensitize and mobilize social works in rural areas through the VDBs.
For the purpose of over-all coordination and logistic contingency expenditure, Rs 1 lakh shall be sanctioned by Home Department to the DDMAs who will submit APRs with report of social works in respective districts within one week time, it said.
Meanwhile the NSDMA has requested NCSU, NPW/Class-I Union and all departments to provide heavy/medium vehicles for removal of collected rubbish during the mass social work in respective district HQs.
Overall deployment/co-ordination will be by respective Deputy Commissioners /DDMA, it said. (Page News Service)
