NSCN (IM) bats for women’s equality

Dimapur, October 25: The NSCN (IM) today called for equal participation of women in public domain.
Addressing a gathering at a Prayer Summit here, member of collective leadership, NSCN, Lt Gen (retd) VS Atem expressed concern over undermining the values of women. “Naga society caters slim participation of women in public affairs. It is painful to see how women folks suffer mental and physical harassment at the hands of men,” he lamented.
Atem appealed to all educated Nagas to relentlessly promote massive participation of women in public domain as an approach to equal recognition of individual rights and secure women “enjoyable status” in society.
The NSCN leader also expressed concern over the unfair preference of male child in the family culture of investing prospects.
“God created woman as a perfect match for man which should not be misunderstood as lower attribution in their relationship. God loves man and woman equally, hence it’s unfortunate for any man to think of a women’s respect at the mercies of man,” he stated.
Atem made it clear that until men accord women equal recognition of rights and freedom “we are short of obeying the word of God and we are guilty of injustice.” (Page News Service)
