NPP observes 1st Foundation Day in Nagaland


Dimapur, September 1: Nagaland State National People’s Party (NPP) celebrated its first foundation day today at Hotel Saramati, Dimapur.
In his welcome speech, Sasank Ghatraj, State General Secretary, PDA member mentioned that the NPP Foundation Day is celebrated in many districts in Nagaland and also in other parts of India. He also mentioned that 1st September is not only the foundation day but it is also the birth anniversary of the party founder, Padma Vibhushan late P A Sangma, former Lok Sabha Speaker. He diligently welcomed everyone at the event to observe such an auspicious day.
A framed picture of the party founder was unveiled together by Guest Speaker, S B Sangma, State Working President, Meghalaya and AtoYepthomi, State Party President & NHL Chairman. After which the biography of Padma Vibhushan, late PA Sangma, former LokSabha Speaker and the founder of the National People’s Party was shared by the Guest Speaker.
In his speech, SB Sangma shared that the party founder Late Purno Agitok Sangma came from a poor family but he was someone who lived for others, who always stood up for the minorities and raised concern for their welfare.
Lt. P.A Sangma has worn many caps during his four decade long political career as Cabinet Minister, Chief Minister and LokSabha Speaker.
It was also mentioned that late Sangma, though hailing from a small village in Garo Hills in Meghalaya, had championed the cause of not only the constituency he represented in the Parliament but for the entire nation.
The event also witnessed a cultural Ao traditional ballad by Ako Longkumer and a dynamic cultural dance by the Garo Union Dimapur.
In his passionate short speech, Sethrongkyu H, State Youth President mentioned that the party has grown strength by strength and that NPP is the only national party in India for tribal to come together especially for the people of North East to come under one umbrella. He also mentioned that NPP is giving an opportunity for the people of Nagaland and North East to have a voice in the country’s LokSabha.
He urged the party workers and members to put their heads together to make NPP a powerful party and one day formed the government in the state.
Yashila Imchen, State Party President Women Wing in her short speech mentioned that NPP is a new political party and has been successful in few contested states and has even formed a government in Meghalaya.
She said that NPP is a party for the development of tribal culture and people and thus urged everyone to work together for a bright future.
In the Presidential address, AtoYepthomi, State Party President said it was an auspicious day because it was the first foundation day for the party in Nagaland and that it would go down in the history of the NPP.
He remarked that the party founder late PA Sangma was a statesman from the Northeast who was well known and respected all over India. He asserted that a political party with dedicated members and workers is like a house with a strong foundation and mentioned that the NPP family is a small political party but it comprised of dedicated workers and members.
He mentioned that as a NPP family, they all have ups and downs but he encouraged all to have patience and to work hard.
Yepthomi stated that NPP is growing fast in a short span of time and that it is the only tribal party to be recognized in India.
He urged the party workers to acknowledge the senior leaders by interacting and communicating with them consistently.
Before the programme for the Foundation Day concluded, a video message by Shri Conrad Sangma, Chief Minister of Meghalya and the National President of NPP, was telecast at the event.
