NPP condemns BJP leader’s statement

Nagaland News

DIMAPUR, NOVEMBER 23: The Nagaland unit of National People’s Party (NPP) has condemned the statement of BJP National Vice-President and Meghalaya In-charge, M Chuba Ao that “these regional parties with national outlook have one agenda – go to Delhi with a begging bowl. What they do with it after returning is an open secret.”

A press statement issued by the Party on Tuesday stated that Ao made this remark while speaking to Shillong Times on November 22.
According to NPP, this was a veiled attack on the party.
“This immature statement has not only presented the people of the Northeast region in a poor light but has also caused irreparable damage to NPP’s status as a national party with regional outlook. NPP Nagaland State would like to remind Mr. Chuba Ao that the NPP is very much a national party with a very firm agenda of regional development of Northeast and has not taken any State of the Northeast for a ride unlike others”, it stated.
The Party called upon all right-thinking political leaders, even of BJP, to condemn such immature statements from a senior party functionary.
“We do not understand why a senior leader like Mr. Chuba Ao has made such a nefarious statement to belittle a well established national party like ours which is a national ally of the BJP-led NDA Government. If his statement is backed by national consensus of BJP, we hereby condemn such an immature statement of the BJP which is a very old political party with leaders of high stature. If he has made this statement in his own individual capacity, we would like to advise the BJP to rein in its functionaries so that they desist from putting one’s foot in the mouth thereby embarrassing not only their own party but also reflecting their own people in a very bad light”, read the statement.

Since, Chuba Ao belongs to Nagaland, “we are equally embarrassed by such a vociferous and shameful statement directed at our party and the Chief Minister of Meghalaya who is also our National President”, it stated.
The Party demanded an immediate, unconditional and appropriate public apology and statement from the BJP leader.
