Mahila Congress

DIMAPUR, OCTOBER 7: Nagaland Pradesh Mahila Congress (NPMC) today launched a toll free Helpline Number STREE (Support Team for Relief, Emergency & Empowerment) 1800-203-0589 commemorating the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister, late Rajiv Gandhi.
Briefing about STREE, NPMC president, N Lucy said that former Prime Minister, late Rajiv Gandhi had always thought about the welfare of women, so they decide to launch this to commemorate his birth anniversary.
She said this toll free number would be purely a social work by a team of a doctor and lawyer besides the Mahila Congress members, adding it is purely to assist women in distress all over the country.
Lucy said doctors, lawyers and Mahila Congress will work in coordination to help women in need. However, she said that those people who seek help should be existing and they should also respond back when called back.
NPCC vice president, Capt GK Zhimomi said that participation of women in politics is inevitable. He congratulated the participation of women from all districts today in the launching of the toll free number.
Capt Zhimomi said that women would have 33% reservation in the ULB elections whenever the elections are held in Nagaland and appealed to the Mahila Congress members to be mentally prepared for the same.
He said it is imperative for the Mahilas to look back and connect with the party members and work cohesively, adding it was their duty to disseminate information to the grassroots level.
Speaking on the occasion, veteran Congress leader and former Chief Minister, KL Chishi termed the Congress men and women “brave hearts”. He said inspite of all the difficulties in the eyes of the people, the Indian National Congress (INC) is considered as very insignificant political party. “But you are brave enough”, he told the gathering adding, many people have left the Congress for the best reasons known to them.
He said many think that Congress has become weak, but not in all States. Stating that Congress is still working hard, he urged Congressmen to have patience. He also urged them to stick to the principles of the Congress party.
“Why we are in Congress? Why are we not in BJP or Regional political parties?” he asked and answer that because INC is the only political party which united India.
“It is the Congress, the identity of the Congress has united India”, he stressed and alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is disintegrating India.
Chishi said that BJP talks about Hindutva, which is the philosophy of RSS, which is an “extreme fanatic philosophy”, adding that’s why Rahul Gandhi started “Bharat Jodo Yatra” to unite India.
On the election scenario in Nagaland, the veteran politician said there is no person in the Congress to contest elections in Nagaland now, but he had already announced to contest from 32 Atoizu Assembly Constituency, adding that it was good for the Nagas.
Whether people vote for him or not, he will contest on Congress ticket from Atoizu constituency, he asserted.
Claiming that Congress is coming up in Nagaland, Chishi said that the NDPP and the BJP have issued respective whips to its MLAs and party men not to talk about election and party tickets. Chishi said that after the seat sharing between the NDPP and BJP was announced, everything is not fine in both the parties.
He also claimed that in the Lok Sabha elections in 2024, the BJP will be “finished”. “I have this thinking”, he said.
Also speaking on the occasion, President of Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC), K Therie today said that women are not safe in the country ruled by the BJP as women are humiliated, rapes are committed and bodies thrown in rivers.
Therie said in the 60 years of Congress rule in the country, they never thought of having such a toll free number for women security as women and men had equal respect and dignity.
He said Congress never thought of giving disrespect to anybody, but after BJP came to power, women are humiliated, rapes are committed and bodies thrown in rivers.
“Now it has become an emergency, that’s why we have launched the toll free number”, he said.
He said the toll free number should reach each and every village.
Stating that women constitute 50% of the votes, they can easily change the government if they think the government is not good.
About Nagaland, the NPCC president said that the Government had promised for a “change” during the elections, but the situation has turned from “bad to worse”.
He said without a major political party, one cannot bring a change in the State.
He also said that Nagas are seeking BJP ticket, and anti-Christian ticket. “At least for the Congress, even if you die, you should not vote for BJP”, he said.
Stating that the BJP is anti-Christian and against our culture and customs, Therie said they want the Nagas to convert to Hindutva.
He also alleged that Chief Minister Neiphu Rio has sown the seeds of RSS and BJP in Nagaland and betrayed the Nagas.
On the occasion, Therie disclosed that at least 40 to 45 people would be given Congress tickets to contest the Assembly elections.
