Dimapur, April 15: Opposition Naga People’s Front (NPF) has lambasted the ruling People’s Democratic Alliance (PDA) government’s handling of the COVID-19 pandemic, accusing the “elected lot at the helm of power” of insensitivity and not paying enough attention to the danger presented by the virus.
In a press release issued on Thursday, the party referred to the detection of COVID cases among football players participating in the Dr T Ao Trophy, and stated that Nagaland is under “big health threat” again because of the callous attitude of the Government.
It stated that the lives of the participants and the spectators have been placed under big threat.
The NPF questioned what had prompted Nagaland Government to organise the tournament when people are reeling under the fear of pandemic.
“The Government should have done proper screening and mandatory testing of all the players before the tournament commenced. The organisers should have also followed proper SOP. It is believed that some districts played without even testing. In fact, such tournament should not have been hosted in such perilous situation, for which the Government is paying the price now. It has cancelled the tournament but too late,” it stated.
According to the party, this has exposed the ill-preparedness and easy-going nature of the Government. (Page News Service)
