NPCC slates NPF on ‘Opposition-less Government’

Nagaland News

DIMAPUR, JULY 28: Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) on Wednesday delivered another stinging critique of the Naga People’s Front (NPF), over the latter’s decision to push for an ‘Opposition-less Government’ and its subsequent attempts to justify the move.

An NPCC press release stated that rather than engage in hollow talks, NPF must tell the people of Nagaland how the proposed ‘Opposition-less Government’ plans to resolve Naga political issue.
“They should be transparent with their proposals of solution to stakeholders rather than bark back at those who show them the mirror of truth. Going by the statement of NPF, people of Nagaland praying for unity and corrupt free government is being misconstrued as praying for ‘Opposition-Less Government’. After totally surrendering their much acclaimed regional pride at the feet of Hindutva forces, NPF has even started to interpret the prayers of the faithful to justify their desperation and indulgence to sail in different boats.
“We caution NPF along with NDPP and BJP to stop using Naga political issue as dog whistle before the people with a tacit aim to put all other important issues of governance into cold storage and exploit the benefits of power that has plundered the State Exchequer empty”, read the press release.
For the Congress, it stated, an ‘Opposition-less Government’ has nothing to do with the Naga political solution. If the elected members are serious enough, they must pave the way by resigning or the Council of Ministers should advice and aid the Governor in implementation of solution which has been put in cold storage, it argued.
“This is also the commitment of legislators in every resolution they had passed on Naga political issue and the present situation demands that they walk the talk. NPF need not remind us of being rejected or accepted by the people, as NPCC which carries the legacy of NNO is the founding father of the State and we cannot ignore the interest of our people yearning for peace, progress and development”, it stated.

NPCC also termed as unfortunate the support extended by some civil society organizations (CSOs) to the proposed ‘Opposition-less Government’.
“This exposes their limited understanding about functions of democracy where strong Opposition plays an equally important role in matters of governance. Nagas don’t deserve democracy if disdain for Opposition Party and its leaders continues to envelope the mindset of the majority. Leaders of CSOs must not succumb to the manipulations of those in power when a complete mockery of democracy is being played out”, it maintained.
