NPCC condemns Karnataka Governor for allowing BJP to form Govt

Dimapur, May 18: The Congress party in Nagaland today slammed the Governor of Karnataka for installing BJP Government knowing well that the party does not have majority in the house.
Talking to media persons, President of Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC), K Therie said that the BJP has nullified the Constitution of India by forming the government in Karnataka despite being in short of majority.
“If minority or single largest party should be invited to form the government, then Congress should be invited in Manipur and Goad and NPF in Nagaland,” he said. Therie said whatever yardstick they (BJP) has applied, cannot be trusted.
Condemning the action of Karnataka Governor and the BJP Government at the Centre, Therie said the Governor is behaving like a robot and acted unconstitutionally.
However, he expressed happiness that the Supreme Court has directed that by 4 p.m. Saturday, floor test should be conducted in Karnataka.
Congress to support NPF candidate
On the bye-election to the lone Lok Sabha seat in Nagaland, Therie said that the Congress has decided to support the NPF candidate with the hope that they would safeguard the secular principles and ideologies.
He said the Congress had proposed a secular front combined opposition candidate and discussed the matter with the Naga Peoples Front and in principle agreed to set up a “secular candidate against communal forces”.
“However, after few days, the NPF had selected C Apok Jamir which stunned the NPCC and AICC because Apok Jamir and few others had left the Congress voluntarily and had attracted the 10th Schedule of the Constitution. The case is pending against them in the Court,” Therie said, adding none of the Congress people are happy for betrayal of trust.
He, however, said, “After considering the present scenario and development, we see communal threat, that is, Hindutva, which has been defined as one nation, one religion and one law. This is a major threat to the people of Nagaland.”
The NPCC president also allayed fear the Nagas would submerge in the ocean of Hindutva and Islam.
“Before independence, our ancestors have already placed in mind to British Government and leaders of the nation that we have no affinity to Hindus and Muslims….We fear that we may submerge into the ocean of Hindutva and Islam..Therefore we ought to be kept as we were in the pat as no sovereign nation has conquered Nagas at any time,” he said.
Therie also alleged that BJP is the brand and heart of the PDA Government in the state and they are trying to impose their ideology and convert the Nagas, which they cannot compromise.
He said the Congress sought clarification from the NPF whether they had severed ties with NDA and NEDA and found that the NPF has done so.
He further said the NPCC is in the interest of the people and to safeguard the special powers of Article 371 (A).
When asked whether the Congress is going to stake claim to form Government in Manipur with NPF support, Therie said NPF has already directed the MLAs to withdraw support in Manipur.
