Dimapur, June 5: The Dimapur Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) today made it clear that it was not opposed to the “Cause of All Nagaland College Students’ Union (ANCSU)” but the issue was student body calling for “indefinite” peaceful bandh without any due consultation with the DCCI which was totally uncalled for.
The DCCI said it had no choice but to see to its welfare and the consumers at large. It further said indefinite bandh only leads to massive negative effect not only on the business community but on all front in our daily lives.
The DCCI expressed its solidarity and moral support to the innocent students’ community whose scholarship was misappropriated which amounts to nothing less than daylight robbery. It also condemned the high handedness of the state government in dealing with the democratic agitation of students’.
The use of force to silence the democratic voice by lathi charge, water cannon and arrest instead of listening to their plight was “very unfortunate”, it said adding the action amounts to a denial of citizen rights to air their grievances.
It wondered what is the state government trying to teach the future generation by using such a brutal force and suggested that the government should learn to deal with students with patience and respect who are our future.
Meanwhile, due to the celebration of Eid, the Muslim business community could not open their shops however, the rest of the business community opened their business establishment and business was conducted smoothly and as usual.
DCCI thanked all its frontals organization, welfare committee and business community for their corporation and showing unity. It further warned the business community not to give in to the social media and rumours regarding bandh or shutter down but rely on DCCI official directions.
DCCI also thanked the administration and Dimapur police for their corporation for enabling smooth conduct of the businesses. (Page News Service)
