Non-Tribal orgs of Karbi Anglong demand withdrawal of peace accord

Dimapur, June 14: Ten non-tribal organizations of Karbi Anglong have submitted memorandums to President of India, Prime Minister, Union Law Minister and Chief Minister of Assam demanding immediate withdrawal of peace accord to be signed between Government of India and Government of Assam in regards to scrapping of voters list and land rights from the KATC Agreement.


The memorandum also demanded upgradation of Bokajan sub-division as a 6th Schedule free district for peace and co-existence within Assam. They also demanded 12 nos of MAC seats reserved for non STs out of the 44 seats.
The non-tribal organizations also demanded 17 Bokajan LAC as a reserved seat for non ST seat.
The memorandum further stated that in Recruitment Board of KATC, Deputy Commissioner should be appointed as a Chairman and there should be representatives from all communities in the said Board.
The organizations demanded that representatives from all communities should be invited for talks before signing of peace accord between Government of India and Government of Assam.
They further demanded a high level enquiry committed to be constituted for proper enquiry of the non tribal population before signing of the peace accord.


The memorandum was signed by representatives of All Adivasi Students of Assam (AASAA), Bokajan District Demand Committee, Karbi Anglong Adivasi Youth & Students’ Council, Assam Gorkha Sanmilan, East Karbi Anglong; East Karbi Anglong Hindi Bhashi Sanstha Zila Samitee; All Assam Minorities Students’ Unino, Karbi Anglong District Committee; Assam Gorkha Autonomous Council Demand Committee, Bokajan Regional Committee; Adivasi Ekta Manch, Karbi Anglong District Committee; All Assam Gorkha Students’ Union; and All Assam Gorkha Students’ Union, Bokajan Regional Committee.
