No MoU on oil exploration without consultation with civil societies: Dy CM Patton

KOHIMA, MAY 4: Nagaland Deputy Chief Minister, Y Patton today said that the Government will hold a consultative meeting with all stakeholders before signing the MoU with Assam Government on oil exploration along the Disturbed Area Belt (DAB) of the two States.
Replying to media queries on the decision of the State Government on the objections raised by various tribal organisations and also Naga political groups on the proposed signing of MoU on oil exploration, Patton said not only a particular tribe but consultations will be held with Mon, Longleng, Mokokchung, Wokha, Nuiland, Dimapur and Peren, the oil bearing areas of Nagaland.
The Government will soon hold a consultative meeting with all tribal hoho leaders and civil society.
The MoU is not yet signed though the Chief Ministers of Nagaland and Assam have agreed in principle, he said while asserting that unless a thorough discussion is held with the civil societies that will not be carried out.
