Dimapur, January 25: No Nagaland Police personnel were deemed worthy for the police medals that are awarded every year on the occasion of the Republic Day.
According to the Union Ministry of Home Affairs, a total of 855 police personnel from across the country and police forces were awarded this year.
This year, the President’s Police Medal for Gallantry (PPMG) was awarded to three personnel, Police Medals for Gallantry (PMG) awarded to 146 personnel, President’s Police Medals for Distinguished Service to 74 personnel and Police Medal for Meritorious Service to 632 personnel.
Not a single police personnel from Nagaland Police is in the list of awardees released by the MHA.
The number of police personnel from other North Eastern States awarded police medals on the occasion of the Republic Day this year are Arunachal Pradesh police – 2, Assam – 15, Manipur – 7, Meghalaya – 16, Mizoram – 4 and Tripura – 7.
Zero Padma Awards
But it is not just State Police that were undeserving of national awards this Republic Day. Even in the civilian award categories, none from Nagaland made it to the list of the Padam Awards.
The Padma Awards is one of the highest civilian awards of the country and are conferred in three categories, namely Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri.
The awards are given in various disciplines/ fields of activities – art, social work, public affairs, science and engineering, trade and industry, medicine, literature and education, sports, civil service, etc.
‘Padma Vibhushan’ is awarded for exceptional and distinguished service; ‘Padma Bhushan’ for distinguished service of high order and ‘Padma Shri’ for distinguished service in any field. The awards are announced on the occasion of Republic Day every year.
